St Andrew’s Gardens on Gray’s Inn Road is the former detached burial ground of St Andrew Holborn, now a Camden public park. Its table tombs and resited headstones are weathered eighteenth- and nineteenth-century stone, blackened by city grime and soft at the edges. Any cleaning here has to be gentle, stone-safe and agreed with the council first.
About St Andrew’s Gardens (St Andrew Holborn Burial Ground)
Consecrated in 1754 as the detached burial ground of St Andrew Holborn, this ground on Gray’s Inn Road closed to burials in 1850 and became a public park in 1885. It is now run by Camden. Table tombs survive in situ, with a run of weathered headstones resited near the northern entrance and a Victorian drinking fountain. Closed to burials, but still tended and visited.
Access: Administered by the London Borough of Camden as a public open space, so any memorial work needs the council’s agreement. The surviving headstones stand resited near the northern entrance rather than over their graves, and the ground is open to the public.

The burial registers for St Andrew Holborn are held at Guildhall Library, which is the place to start. Bear in mind that the ground closed to burials in 1850 and later became a public park: many headstones were resited near the northern entrance, so a surviving stone will not usually mark the actual grave. Camden administers the site today.
