St Mary-at-Lambeth Churchyard, beside Lambeth Palace, closed to burials in 1854 and is now the Garden Museum’s Sackler Garden. Its Grade II*-listed tombs, including the Tradescant tomb, are historic stonework in a highly protected setting. Any cleaning here is conservation work carried out under the museum’s supervision, not routine commercial grave cleaning, so we’d always advise contacting the museum directly first.
About St Mary-at-Lambeth Churchyard (Garden Museum)
St Mary-at-Lambeth, beside Lambeth Palace, is a former parish church now run as the Garden Museum. Its churchyard closed to burials in 1854 and was laid out as the Sackler Garden. Several tombs, including the Tradescant family monument, are Grade II* listed, and the crypt was found in 2016 to hold the remains of five Archbishops of Canterbury and Elizabeth Boleyn.
Access: Run by the Garden Museum, not a council or burial authority. The listed tombs are protected heritage stonework, so any conservation cleaning here is museum-supervised rather than standard commercial memorial work.
- Heritage status
- Grade II* listed
Permission: memorial work here is governed by the burial authority. In practice the registered grave owner’s consent is what we ask for, and we work to the site’s own memorial rules — see their memorial guidance, or our guide to who needs permission to clean a grave.
