Edgware Federation Cemetery, opened in June 2021 at the top of Edgwarebury Lane, is the first solely Orthodox Jewish cemetery to open in north-west London in decades, with all plots facing Jerusalem. Because every memorial here is post-2021, the work is maintenance cleaning rather than restoration. We carry out gentle, stone-safe cleaning that follows the cemetery’s Orthodox burial-society rules.

About Edgware Federation Cemetery

Edgware Federation Cemetery, run by the Federation of Synagogues, opened its gates in June 2021 at the top of Edgwarebury Lane, the first new Federation cemetery since the 1930s and the first solely Orthodox cemetery in this part of north-west London. It was built after the Federation's existing cemetery in Edmonton reached around 98% capacity, and it has space for over 7,000 plots, a purpose-built taharah facility, mikveh and coffin-making workshop, and all plots face Jerusalem.

Access: Run by the Federation of Synagogues, an Orthodox burial society, so all memorial work follows their rules, including respect for Shabbat and Jewish festivals. As a cemetery opened in 2021, every memorial here is modern, so cleaning is routine maintenance rather than restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have a grave cleaned at Edgware Federation Cemetery?+

Yes. We provide professional, stone-safe grave and headstone cleaning at Edgware Federation Cemetery, following the cemetery’s regulations. Just give us the section and grave reference and we’ll do the rest.

Do I need to be present?+

No. We only need the cemetery name and plot reference. We send before-and-after photographs and a short report when the work is done.

How much does grave cleaning at Edgware Federation Cemetery cost?+

A single headstone clean starts from £75 and a full grave clean from £85, depending on stone type, condition and access. We always provide a free, no-obligation quote first.

Is Edgware Federation Cemetery the same as the Edgwarebury Cemetery where Amy Winehouse is buried?+

No. They are two separate cemeteries on Edgwarebury Lane, sharing the postcode HA8 8QP but run by different burial authorities. This one belongs to the Federation of Synagogues and opened in 2021 for the strictly Orthodox community. Edgwarebury Cemetery has been run by the Edgwarebury Joint Burial Board since 1972 and serves the Spanish & Portuguese, West London Synagogue, Liberal Judaism and Belsize Square congregations — that is where Amy Winehouse is buried.

Will work stop for Shabbat or Jewish festivals at Edgware Federation Cemetery?+

Yes. As an Orthodox cemetery run by the Federation of Synagogues, all visits and work here follow burial-society rules, and we never schedule cleaning on Shabbat or Jewish festivals. Because the cemetery only opened in 2021, every memorial is modern, so our work is routine care rather than restoration of old stone.
