Richmond Cemetery, opened in 1786 and now 15 acres within a conservation area next to Richmond Park, is one of Richmond’s oldest council burial grounds. Its older memorials — some dating back over two centuries — often carry the soot and lichen staining typical of long-standing stone. We carry out careful, stone-safe grave and headstone cleaning here, respecting the site’s conservation-area status.
About Richmond Cemetery
Richmond Cemetery opened in 1786 and now covers 15 acres of Metropolitan Open Land within a conservation area, bordering Richmond Park and East Sheen Cemetery. It holds two Gothic Revival chapels, including Arthur Blomfield’s 1875 Church of England chapel, and is notably rich in war memorials, with 178 Commonwealth service graves and a Lutyens-designed cenotaph.
Access: Run by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames within a conservation area, so memorial work should respect its Metropolitan Open Land status. Vehicle access is via the Kings Ride gate on Sheen Road, shared with East Sheen Cemetery.
