North East Surrey Crematorium in Morden is a working crematorium with memorial gardens, and despite its name it is inside Greater London, not Surrey. Bronze and stone memorial plaques here can dull with algae, moss and weathering. We carry out careful, stone-safe cleaning of memorials and plaques at the crematorium, in line with the joint board’s grounds rules.
About North East Surrey Crematorium
Opened in 1958 within the grounds of Battersea New Cemetery, North East Surrey Crematorium is run jointly by Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth councils under a 1956 Act of Parliament. It has two multi-faith chapels, each seating eighty, and despite its name sits within Greater London, in Merton, not Surrey.
Access: The crematorium is run by a statutory joint board representing Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth, so memorial and plaque work follows the board’s own grounds rules rather than a single council’s. It also serves Sutton residents, which has no crematorium of its own.

Permission: memorial work here is governed by the burial authority. In practice the registered grave owner’s consent is what we ask for, and we work to the site’s own memorial rules — see their memorial guidance, or our guide to who needs permission to clean a grave.
