Hither Green Cemetery on Verdant Lane opened in 1873, originally as Lee Cemetery, and sits alongside Lewisham Crematorium and the council’s bereavement office. Its Victorian and later headstones can pick up moss, grime and general weathering over the decades. We carry out gentle, stone-safe grave and headstone cleaning here, arranged through Lewisham’s own memorial permission process.
About Hither Green Cemetery
Hither Green Cemetery, on Verdant Lane, opened in 1873 as Lee Cemetery and covers about 10.8 acres. It stands alongside Lewisham Crematorium, and its site houses the council’s bereavement office, which handles bookings and memorial enquiries for all four Lewisham cemeteries. The cemetery has been in continuous use since the Victorian era.
Access: Run by Lewisham Council’s Cemeteries and Crematorium Services, whose bereavement office sits on site. Memorial cleaning is arranged through the council’s permit process; the memorials team can be reached on a dedicated line separate from general bookings.
